Coach: Matthew Hunter
Matt grew up in Milwaukee and now lives in Oconomowoc with his wife and three children. Matt was a high school swimmer and went to University of Utah on an offer to swim there. It is here where he picked up doubles volleyball and a true love of the game.
After three years in Utah, Matt moved back to Wisconsin to finish school and worked as a Medical Technologist until recently when he became a stay at home dad….or “Frommy” as his wife calls it. Matt has played several years of indoor and sand volleyball in various leagues and tournaments in the Madison and Milwaukee areas.
After ten years of not being involved in volleyball, Matt found his passion again while helping coach an 8th grade team and experiencing the atmosphere of a Seton Tournament. Matt started coaching his oldest daughter’s 3rd and 4th grade Y teams and then her 5th grade school team. He joined OVBC last season as 11 Black coach and will continue this year as an assitant with the opportunity to help develop young players’ passion and abilities in the sport.
As well as working in the yard and landscaping, Matt enjoys woodworking and the days spent at the beach with the family.
Coach: Karen Tesmer
Karen is a life-long resident of Oconomowoc. Her love for the game sparked at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in fourth grade and continued as a Oconomowoc Raccoon, honing her skills through four years of high school volleyball. Karen has continued to feed her passion by playing competitively in sand and indoor leagues weekly for the last twenty-three years. Her tenure as a coach began when her stepdaughters started playing at the YMCA, where she coached for four seasons. She followed them up the ranks and has been assisting OVBC since 2018. Karen’s coaching philosophy values mastering the foundational skills of the game and molding her players into strong women who understand the importance of teamwork. She strives to motivate them to be their best both on and off the court. When she’s not on the sidelines, Karen spends her professional time as a hair stylist, operating Seize the Day Hair Salon in Oconomowoc. In her free time Karen enjoys camping, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking, swimming, hanging with her daughters, and traveling with her husband, Troy.
